From 1st of July 2007 mostly all enclosed public places and work places in England will be smoke free. A smoke free England will provide for a healthier environment, so everyone can socialise, shop, relax, travel and go to work free from second hand smoke.
Main Points of the new Law:
- From 1 July 2007 it will be against the law to smoke in virtually all enclosed and substantially enclosed public places and workplaces. See below for definitions.
- Public transport and work vehicles used by more than one person will also need to be smokefree.
- No-smoking signs will have to be displayed in all smokefree premises and vehicles.
- Staff smoking rooms and indoor smoking areas will no longer be allowed, so anyone who wants to smoke will have to go outside.
- Managers of smokefree premises and vehicles will have legal responsibilities to prevent people from smoking.
- If you are uncertain where you can or can't smoke, just look for the no-smoking signs or ask someone in charge.
How Do I Quit ?
There are many ways to stop smoking, however in all the methods you must realise that it's you that has to want to quit. With all of the different methods, nothing is fail safe and everything will require willpower to keep the cravings and urge at bay. Many people didnt know that support in one form or another - be it by friends or by counselling can help double your chances.

Will Power Alone
Will power is not as effective as other methods below as nicoteen is a drug and plays with your mind and most people find that they stop and start numerous times. However, that is not to say that people have not succeeded with this method.
Nicotine Replacement Therapy (Patches / Gum)
This increases your chances of success much more than willpower alone. You can use patches or gum that feeds nicoteen into your body so that the cravings are satisfied. This is very effective however, a lot of people don't realise that you cannot just stop using the patches - you must ween yourself off and must be as determined as you were when you wanted to stop.
Champix
This is a new drug designed and clinically proven to help increase your chances of stopping by 44% compared to willpower alone. The most effective treatment, it came out in early 2007 and has helped lots of people kick the habit - but with Champix, the most successful quitters have done it with support - you will find it hard to quit in isolation. Get the people around you to help, use the government quit lines, go for some counselling. You can find more information about Champix here.
