H1N1 vaccine set for the North of England
October 23, 2009 | Influenza
The long awaited H1N1 vaccine is said to be just around the corner for some parts of the UK. There have been numerous reports about its upcoming development and launch, in preparation for the '2nd wave' of cases.
According to the media, anybody who requires a H1N1 vaccine in York, Chester and Lancaster, will receive one. Health officials have however warned that there may be a time delay due to increased demand.
To date, 1,000 doses of the H1N1 nasal mist vaccine have been distributed across these counties. The spokeswoman for the S.C Department of Health & Environmental Control commented: “Because it's only 100 doses, we're developing plans on how to use that,” Sanders said. “Once we get more vaccines, we can start setting up plans.”
The first priority will be given to immunizing health care workers, people between 6 months and 24 years old, pregnant women and the elderly. An actual H1N1 shot is expected to arrive in around a month’s time.
