Does Too Much Masturbation Lower My Sperm Count?

Posted in Sexual Health 07 Aug, 2014

If obsessive porn addicts told us anything, it's that too much masturbating can wreak havoc on your personal sex life. It won't exactly heal carpal tunnel syndrome either. But what about the relationship between masturbation and low sperm count? Is it true that masturbating too much can affect your sperm levels, making it harder to get a woman pregnant?

Studies are inconclusive

Over the years, many studies have been carried out on the effects of male masturbation on fertility. The results from these studies are mixed and there is no conclusive data to support either side of the argument. While most studies agree that masturbation is not harmful, others argue that male masturbation depletes sperm count in the long run.

The male body generates sperm at an incredible rate and, as a result, masturbation is not likely to have an adverse affect on sperm levels. But as with other behaviours, when done in a neurotic, excessive manner, it can eventually lead to physiological imbalances in your body. How, I hear you ask?

Health implications

Since over-masturbation distresses nervous and live system functions, it can lead to sexual fatigue, even among young men. To put it boldly, that slight feeling of pain you get in your penis from masturbating too much can indicate testicular pain or damage to other nerve endings in your genitals. This may lead to erectile dysfunction way before the normal age of onset.

Are you masturbating too much?

Just to set the record straight, this article is not talking about men who masturbate a few times a week and neither is it presenting itself as anti-masturbation; it's talking about those who admittedly do it several times a day, every day. Doctors usually advise that men try to keep the habit down to just a few times per week, but those with vigorous sex lives who have sex on a daily basis might call this advice outrageous. Nonetheless, we are just citing the research.

At OnlineClinic, we sometimes get asked, "I masturbate on a daily basis– should I be worried?" Here's what we advise…

Don't panic

There's no significant reason to worry about masturbation and sperm count. Worrying about this issue alone can have negative effects on your fertility and sex drive. Most men will be able to compensate for any sperm lost during masturbation. It only takes about 24 hours for your sperm count to return to normal, so you should still have the same chances of getting a woman pregnant.

Treating over-masturbation habits

Most guys have trouble going at this cold turkey, so you might have to put that male ego to one side and attend a sex addicts anonymous meeting. You'll gain valuable advice and techniques from guys who successfully treated their habit.

While the saying about getting hairy palms if you masturbate is not true, there are still serious health consequences to doing it compulsively. So, don't worry about the occasional one-man romp.

Probably masturbating too much would reduce spermcount just because you won't have any left lol.

Haha as if people really believe this. Thanks for the advice ;)
