Tamiflu

Roche

Tamiflu oseltamivir pills boxTamiflu is the brand name of oseltamivir, a prescription drug used for the treatment and prevention of influenza. This anti-viral medication is most effective in fighting the effects of influenza strains A and B, which includes both swine flu and avian bird flu. It is marketed by Roche and is sold in capsule form.

A prescription for Tamiflu can be approved by one of our UK registered doctors if you complete an online consultation. If you are considered suitable for treatment, your order can then be processed.

What are the benefits of Tamiflu?

Tamiflu works to combat and ease the symptoms of flu, such as coughing, a stuffy nose, sore throat, fever/chills, aches and tiredness. On average, Tamiflu shortens the duration of influenza by 1 - 2 days, providing that you take the treatment as soon as flu-like symptoms become apparent. Tamiflu can also be used as a preventative measure if you believe you have been exposed to the virus and are at an increased risk of becoming ill.

How does Tamiflu work?

Oseltamivir, the main ingredient in Tamiflu, belongs to a group of medicines known as neuraminidase inhibitors. It attacks the flu virus and prevents it from spreading inside the body. Oseltamivir targets the source of the flu infection, in order to speed up the recovery time for those who are suffering the following symptoms: fever, headache, muscle aches, sore throat, coughing and general ill health.

Tamiflu can reduce the duration of flu symptoms by approximately 1-2 days. The capsule can also be taken to reduce the risk of developing flu-related problems, such as heavy chest infections.

Who is suitable to take Tamiflu?

Tamiflu can be taken by adults and children who live in close contact with someone who has been diagnosed with the flu. Tamiflu may also be used to treat adults and children during a pandemic such as swine flu, or in cases when flu vaccination doesn't provide protection against a strain of the flu virus that is circulating. Tamiflu can be taken by anyone over the age of 1, but it can sometimes be prescribed to children between 6 - 12 months of age when a more severe strain is spreading, like swine flu or bird flu.

How do I take Tamiflu?

The recommended dosage of Tamiflu is 2 capsules per day for 5 days. The capsule can be taken orally with a glass of water with or without food. Users are advised not to take Tamiflu on an empty stomach as it may cause a mild feeling of sickness. The capsule should not be broken or chewed but swallowed whole.

Tamiflu side effects

Because this drug treatment has been widely used in recent pandemics, such as the outbreak of swine flu, mild to moderate side effects were reported. However, the percentage of users who experience side effects is very low. Users may suffer from the following complaints when taking Tamiflu:

  • Headache and dizziness
  • Nausea or vomiting
  • Diarrhoea
  • Abdominal pain
  • Indigestion
  • Sleeping problems
  • Skin rash, eczema or hives

People taking Tamiflu who experience any of these symptoms should consult their doctor for further advice.

How can I buy Tamiflu online?

Tamiflu can be requested online from Onlineclinic. We ask each patient to then complete a short consultation with a GMC registered doctor to determine their suitability to use this drug treatment. Once the online consultation process has been completed, a GMC registered doctor will review the patient’s details and if you are suitable, provide a prescription for Tamiflu. The medication can then be purchased and dispensed from a licensed pharmacy and sent out via next day delivery.
