Mysimba is an oral weight loss treatment. You start by taking one tablet once daily, and increase your dose over 4 weeks.

Mysimba is a black triangle drug, meaning it is under careful monitoring. This means it’s important you report any side effects you experience to the MHRA through the Yellow Card Scheme.

You are eligible if you have a BMI of 30 or over, or 27 and over and have one weight-related condition, such as:

• prediabetes
• type 2 diabetes
• high blood pressure
• heart disease (including high cholesterol, heart attack, stroke, coronary artery disease)
• obstructive sleep apnoea
• PCOS (polycystic ovarian syndrome)
• osteoarthritis or gout
• chronic back pain
• fatty liver disease
• gallbladder disease

You cannot use Mysimba if you:

• are pregnant, planning to become pregnant or breastfeeding
• are allergic to Mysimba or any of the other ingredients
• have high blood pressure
• have a brain tumour
• are usually a heavy drinker and have just quit, or you plan on quitting while using Mysimba
• have recently stopped using sedatives (e.g. benzodiazepines)
• have bipolar disorder
• are currently dependent on opiates (e.g. methadone) or are going through withdrawal
• are taking monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs)
• have severe liver or kidney disease.
